Typical Hauptmann Weekend...in Hawaii

I forgot to post this picture-Saturday morning Evan was up early, downstairs and dressed just like this. Later-maybe 8am Erik comes down dressed like this-exactly like Evan was. He was actually in something else while I was up stairs but changed and then came down wearing the same thing as Evan-totally un-planned. Erik changed again because he didn't want to go anywhere matching with anybody. I thought they looked cute.
Saturday Erik took the kids up the Wa'ahila Ridge. We did this hike 2 years and 2 months ago (I can't believe it was THAT long ago!) The Hauptmann's: A Day of Scrambling You can see the pictures here. It was a tough 6 miles and Erica did the whole thing herself then as well as today. Way to go sweet girl! Owen twisted his ankle-in the parking lot, whew, before the hike even began so we had our own fun.

this hike constantly goes up and down,

they ran into some pig hunters, the dogs have gps collars,

looking Leeward,
another up...ugh...
the top finally! Looking windward with friends of Erik's. Erik was so overcome by these two people dangling from this helicopter pretty high above them and wondering if this is some crazy kine sight seeing trip he forgot to snap the view but you can see it on the link from when we did it before.
Sunday
Erik took Evan up to Sharks Cove with a friend he works with. It's gorgeous and calm in the summer. But in the winter there are massive waves. Erik and I did a 2 mile open water swim race here in 1997-I know, that was ages ago. Ehukai Beach Park - Sharks Cove This link is really cool-it's a 360 degree photo so you can spin it in all directions to see what it really looks like to be at Sharks Cove.

I am SO SO proud of Evan. When he was 10 years old he took a scuba class but wasn't confident enough to do the 40' dive to get his card. He's been saying he wanted to re-take the class so he could finish up. Well, Evan's Dad happens to be a diver-ha! betcha didn't know that and lo and behold he also happens to work with a bunch of divers...I know, it gets even better...some even do scuba certification...whadda ya know!Evan did his 40' dive this morning-he actually went to 45'! Since Erik lost his underwater camera this is the only pic he took but they saw a seal, tons of fish...all sorts of sea life. Evan carried his very heavy scuba bottle all on his own with an extra 15lbs because his vest filled with water. Evan, I am so proud you are my son! Way to go! He can't wait to go diving again.
