A Day of Scrambling

Today's hike was a really good workout-a tough 6 miles of steep ups and downs-a lot of climbing and slipping and sliding. We went to the top of the Wa'ahila Ridge in the Ko'olau's.

Erica saw this tree and said, "look, a tree with eyes!" One of the "eyes" was on the ground (you can see a few missing) and she goes, "he lost one of his eyes." It was so funny.
Heading up the first of our inclines.

Coming down...
A view of where we are headed, one of the pointy peaks off to the right...
Michelle got beautiful pictures of these on the Kauai trip. I was so excited to see this plant on this hike.
Coming down...again...
Wild oranges-they were a bit sour.
This sweet and happy girl did the entire hike herself! She wasn't always so happy on the way back. After we got home and took showers she decided the hike wasn't so bad after all but it's not one she wants to do again.
Big belly laugh.
Are we getting any closer???
A close up...
They are actually all the way up there, another one of our "ups"...
The last "up" to go...
We made it! The kids are showing the wild raspberries they found at the summit.

This is the view from the summit looking toward the windward side. The beach area is Kane'ohe.

Working our way down and a view of the Leeward coast.
A view of the Wai'anae's.
A tiny wild orchid.
