Zion

I am so jealous!

Thanks for the pictures Marsha.

Trees

I was so struck by how beautiful these trees looked at night. For a moment I felt like I was in the bayou.

Erik's Off

...to southern Utah to hang with his Dad and do an Iron Man distance race. He left Sunday.
He was able to get his bike to count as regular checked luggage, this picture doesn't show how big the bag is. I wish he had taken the cord so I could post pictures, Utah is so beautiful. He went to Zion today.

Owen

Anyone who has spent time with Owen knows he is really witty. He is also, as my Dad once said "tidy."
Cleaning on the roof,
goggles for eye protection,
a "city person's way to hear the ocean"
when I send Owen out to play in the afternoons he cleans something-picks up all the dead palm leaves, washes the car, cleans windows...

Puppy Love

Ever since Keana moved Erica's best friend has become Yuki, a kind neighbor lets Erica have Yuki whenever she wants.
All the kids love Yuki, which means snowball in Japanese, I don't know how she stays so white with all of this red dirt,

Erica loves her walks with Yuki
We tried to give Yuki back Saturday but no one was home so she came with us! Even Erik, who is not much of an animal person is getting attached to her.

Flowers and a Fruit From Last Friday

We found these flowers on our walks with Yuki,
this is how the little local apple bananas comapre to regular bananas.

Testing

The 19th, 20th, & 22nd the kids had standardized testing. I was the coordinator for it and had been pretty busy since January. I was only able to get pictures of Erica this year.
Erica and Bailey-they are friends from Sunday school.
Having a little snack during break.

Wet Wednesday

Oh, the kids decided Thomas Jefferson's birthday ended up being really good after all but it was definitely oddsome.
While we were walking to the pool (from the car) we saw this really funny sign "Big Scary Laser" so we had to take a picture but "Evan wasn't following the rules" Erica says.
Here's proof they actually got in. It has been really cold and windy lately so they didn't last very long.
Notice anything interesting about this picture...Owen is the only one in the pool! We were freezing waiting for him to come out but he just wanted to keep playing.
Erica and Evan checked to see if there were any ripe apple-bananas. That's what the little local bananas are called.

Oddsome Day

Owen made up the word "oddsome" like "awesome" and Erica decided that is what today was.
Can you tell what this is an advertisement for...the kids are pointing to a clue. Odd ad.
We got a flat and Erik had to come change it. So glad I have a husband that's home and has a job where he can come to the rescue right away...my knight in shinning armor! While we were sitting there Owen says, "this birthday really stinks." It was so funny and unexpected.
For those of you who don't know, it's Thomas Jefferson's birthday...a very brilliant, tall, redhead, and strong in faith. Here's something he had to say about the judiciary system and central banking-genius.
The judiciary of the United States is the subtle corps of sappers and miners constantly working under ground to undermine the foundations of our confederated fabric. They are construing our constitution from a co-ordination of a general and special government to a general and supreme one alone. This will lay all things at their feet, and they are too well versed in English law to forget the maxim, boni judicis est ampliare juris-dictionem. (good justice is broad jurisdiction)
That we are overdone with banking institutions which have banished the precious metals and substituted a more fluctuating and unsafe medium, that these have withdrawn capital from useful improvements and employments to nourish idleness, that the wars of the world have swollen our commerce beyond the wholesome limits of exchanging our own productions for our own wants, and that, for the emolument of a small proportion of our society who prefer these demoralizing pursuits to labors useful to the whole, the peace of the whole is endangered and all our present difficulties produced, are evils more easily to be deplored than remedied.

Oops, sorry, back to our oddsome day...so after the flat tire we had to go all the way over to the other side of the island to turn around. We saw all these beautiful waterfalls! It was spectacular.
Then we got to watch this funny little yellow bird while we were waiting for the piano teacher to come-another reason why Owen decided this birthday stinks-piano.

This is from the dance last weekend. This weekend the kids had art then went to a birthday party. We forgot the camera though.

Easter

We had fun this Easter. It started with church at 7am,
baskets,
coloring eggs...and fingers-except for Evan, he doesn't like to touch anything with his fingers,
Erica's favorite egg.
