(Erik's trip part 5) Race Day

of the hardest Ironman course with the toughest conditions on record...
who let the piranhas out?
waiting for Erik to stop dancing around in his wet suit,
wonder how long it takes him to warm up...you're shakin' off the cold, you pretend it doesn't bother you, you just want to explode, you can listen to the engines moanin' out its one note song...
your thoughts will soon be wanderin' with a 112 miles to go...when your ridin' 7 hours there's nothin' much to do...
you don't feel much like ridin' you just wish the trip were through...every ounce of engery you try to give away...on the long and lonesome highway...
...here I am on the road again, here I am...wait stop that record...what the?!...enjoying yourself!?...here?!...only a Hauptmann would smile and wave in the middle of a marathon after swimming 2.4 miles for over an hour in 56 degree water while getting kicked in the face and then riding a bike 112 miles...
this race is known for people collapsing, crawling to the finish, passing out, dropping out, finishing in an ambulance, and at the very least feeling fairly miserable afterwards but here's Erik looking fresh as a daisy...wait til you see what he does tomorrow...huge cheers go to Fred too-he spent the entire day out on the race course-start (4:15 am to drop Erik at the swim) to finish (9 pm) and many stops along the way with Marsha manning the computer to provide check point up dates throughout the full 13 hour and 40 minutes...a fully coordinated operation. Top notch love and support the whole week! Thank you!!! I won't mention this to Erik...don't want to give him any new ideas but if he ever gets it in mind to do the RAAM...........
