Kaua'i Day 4, Saturday

Today's Hike: 4.5 miles We headed to the east side of Kaua'i and then drove in toward the center of the island where it is very wet, as in the wettest spot in the world. True to Mount Wai'ale'ale's reputation it was pouring as we arrived. As we deliberated the rain stopped. We put our hiking shoes on and headed up the muddy Kuilau Ridge Trail.
The mountains were socked in but we still had great views.

Looking west.
As we were going up some local hunters were coming down. You can see the one carrying a boar. Owen said the pig was getting a piggy back ride!
We met a very cool family on this hike. The mom works at Pixar and the parents of the dad live in Israel plus they love Italy so we had loads of things to talk about. We came to a bridge and the start of the Moalepe Trail, Michelle called for a game of pooh (sp?) sticks. It was so cute, I had never heard of it before.

This is the best we saw of Mt. Wai'ale'ale'. We actually thought it was going to clear but it didn't.
Michelle and I turned around and headed to get the cars to meet everyone else at the end of the trail (so we actually had a little longer hike that day). We met everyone at this tree with these beautiful flowers.
I love these trees. We have them in the gulch on Oahu but it'd be difficult to get a picture of them. This was the bridge right before the turn off for our beach and the whole area is full of these beautiful trees.
When we got back Erik went looking for wood. You can take the mountain man to the beach but you can't take the mountain out of the man. He came back with a coconut too.
