Battle of Waterloo

My Dad's friend, Ola from Sweden, took a really cool field trip to see the Battle of Waterloo. We are always looking for learning opportunities. First the Battle of Waterloo took place in present day Belgium on Sunday June 18, 1815.
The Imperial French army under the command of Emperor Napoleon was defeated by the Seventh Coalition under the command of the Duke of Wellington and a Prussian army under the command of Gebhard von Blucher. The defeat at Waterloo marked the end to Napoleon's rule as Emperor of France.
Napoleon chose to attack in the hope of destroying the opposing forces before they could join in a coordinated invasion of France. Napoleon delayed fighting until noon to allow the ground to dry, Wellington's army withstood attacks by the French, in the evening the Prussians arrived breaking though Napoleon's right flank. Wellington attacked, the French were in disorder. Louis XVIII was restored to the French throne and Napoleon was exiled to Saint Helena, where he died in 1821.
