Lake Nasser Sun 23rd Day 6

Sunrise over Lake Nasser,

we see a lot of modern construction made out of mud bricks,
The temple at El Saboua in Nubia was built by Ramesses II to honor Amon Ra and Ra Horakhty. Saboua means lion from the two lines of sphinxes with the bodies of lions. There was a second temple dedicated to Horus and Amun but was not moved and is at the bottom of Lake Nasser.

Dalia is so good at getting us everywhere so early. All of the sites are extremely crowded.

we all got to go for a camel ride today, each camel made a groan when they were next in turn,

it was so cool seeing the moon over the desert,
as we were walking along I was looking at all the different animal tracks in the sand, I did see one snake track,

Erica making furry friends again,

fresh water everywhere but very little vegetation and fertile land,
The temple of Dakka is dedicated to Thoth . it was begun by the Nubian king, Akamani about 220 bc, it contains a number of reused blocks from an earlier temple dedicated to Horus built by Hatshepsut and Tuthmosisi III,

the scene on the wall above shows Augustus wearing the red crown of Lower Egypt and presenting three ostrich feathers to Osiris and Isis,

on the right of the doorway is a depiction of Anqet, the goddess of the Nile at Aswan, above the door in the pylon, a solar disk with a uraeus extends its wings,

where soldiers sharpened their spear blades,

The temple of Meharrakka dates from the Greco-Roman period.

back on the boat I could see various tombs and residences all around,

life on the boat...
we got to see the ship's Nubian pilot who was sitting cross legged on the cushion,
the pilot's brother, we were told 95% of all the pilots come from the same two families, they grow up piloting on the lake,

they served little donuts with afternoon tea,
Nile crocodile,

gorgeous Nubian sunset,

Owen, who has been sick the past couple of days and sick again this evening was so miserable, looks up at me and says, "I am so happy I got to ride the camel today." Poor thing, the towel folders made mummies with crossed arms in the other bed to keep him company,
in the evening we had Nubian entertainment
with a whirling dervish.
