Amazing Devotional

Prayer:

"Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Matthew 6:10

Prayer is the conduit that beings the direct, intervening, specific power and provision of God into the circumstances of earth. God's work is finished but finished work must come from the spiritual (heaven) realm to the material realm (earth). Prayer is how the will of God that is finished in heaven comes into the circumstances of earth. Prayer releases the power of God to accomplish the purposes of God.

Bitterness:

What is the cure for bitterness? "When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. So the people grumbled against Moses saying, 'What are we to drink?' Then Moses cried out to the Lord and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water and the water became sweet." Exodus 15:23-25

The wood-the cross is the cure for bitterness. Let your bitterness come into contact with the cross of Jesus. Moses threw the wood into the midst of the bitter water-let the cross of Jesus be the center of your circumstances. Let the power of His resurrection heal any bitterness. Be sweet flowing Living Waters.

The Armor of God:

"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes." Ephesians 6:11 Put on means to be enveloped in it. Every single piece of the armor is Jesus! I never knew this!

Truth: "I am the way and the truth and the life." John 14:6

Righteousness: "It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God-that is our righteousness, holiness and redemption." 1 Corinthians 1:30

Gospel of Peace: "For He Himself is our peace." Ephesians 2:14

Faith: "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith." Heb 12:2

Salvation: "He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him." Heb 5:9

Word of God: "In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning." John 1:1-2

Last Weekend in Maryland

Looking at some of my grandfather's treasure-real ancient Egyptian scarabs, still with the dirt on,
checking out granddad's treasures,
then Friday we headed out to the country to visit my friend Kathy. The kids loved loved loved it!! They want to live in the country now.
Kathy has horses!
It's really snowing!

Kathy has dogs!

Kathy has a view!

and now Kathy has mud in her house! I'm sorry Kathy...we did have an incredible time and the kids didn't want to leave.
Then we headed back to to play in the snow some more! You'd think kids born and raised in Hawaii would really not like the cold and snow but they LOVE it!
Snowman with a Hawaiian touch-a lei!
Hmmm...could some reacting be in Evan's future??
How cool is this-real Confederacy currency
On top of every hill in these parts sits a plantation house, this is the one near where I grew up,
this was the view out my window-actually all I could see was snowy branches-it was gorgeous. Life with Evan, "you know the one bad thing about Grandma's cooking....she doesn't make enough of it." Well, we really miss the snow, winter, Grandma's cooking, hanging out with Granddad, all the great things to see and do...but we know we'll be back hopefully next spring!
Awl, Evan can be so sweet...heading back to Hawaii.

Flying back to the US

We had a lay over at the Paris air port,
shopping for chocolate,
trying out perfume,
checking out the beautiful porcelain,
they found huge lollipops,
playing cards with grandma,
discovering what happens when you wake up for the 3rd morning in a row before 5am...pants sometimes go on backwards...

Heliopolis & Last Day

Up at 4 am again to head back to Cairo, we are spending the day in Heliopolis.
Spectacular sunrise in Luxor, it really looked like this. Heliopolis "City of the Sun" was one of the oldest cities of ancient Egypt, the capital of the 13th Lower Egyptian district. Today the ancient city lies 15-20 feet below the modern city. The only surviving remnant of Heliopolis is the 68' red granite obelisk from the Temple of Re-Atum erected by Senusret I of the 12th dynasty and still stands in its original position.

Heliopolis was the capital of the Province of Goshen, the northern Egyptian territory of the Nile Delta. This was one of the 3 main storage location where grain was kept during the winter months and during the 7 years of famine during the time of Joseph in the Book of Genesis. The city was thought of as a place of bread. In the time of the major prophets, Isaiah made reference to the City of the Sun as one of the 5 cities of Egypt that would come to speak Hebrew. He made a wordplay on "city of the sun" ('ir hasemes) by writing 'ir haheres which means "city of destruction." This play on words was a prophetic description later reinforced by Jeremiah who declared the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar would shatter the obelisks of Heliopolis and burn the temple of the sun in fire and Ezekiel who said the young men of Aven would fall by the sword. Ezekiel also made a word play on the Hebrew name of Heliopolis that was used in the time of Joseph. The Hebrew word aven means "folly" or "iniquity" so his reference implied the "temple of folly and iniquity."
This is Cairo's mall, City Stars,
Mmmm...
this is the most gorgeous rug I have ever seen. It was really awesome venturing out today. We rode in a taxi so we were on the streets with all the other crazy drivers driving just like them. It was a hair raising experience! Zipping, honking, lane sharing, lane switching, going fast, slamming on brakes while everyone else was doing the same. Being in the mall was a very non-tourist thing, we were completely among the local population without our Arab speaking guide. Trying to order lunch was crazy-there was no line, it was the most aggressive person that could make themselves heard was the one that got their order in. When we left there were crowds of Egyptians around, there was a feeling of vulnerability just from being immersed in a different culture which is in part anti-American. We didn't connect it to the demonstrations/revolution that was in day 3. Luckily it was early on and things were still very calm.
We went back to the hotel-we promised the kids they could swim. It was a beautiful heated roof-top pool! They were excited to swim on the roof.

Valley of the Kings to Karnak Day 8

Another super early start, Dalia wants us to get to the Valley of the Kings when it opens.
Sorry this is blurry, this street looked so pretty with all the little lights,
we crossed over to the left bank of the Nile by boat to get there faster, we had the most festive boat,
Ancient Egyptians believed that to speak the name of the dead made him live again. The tombs were inscribed with the names, and titles and held images and statues of the kings. Beginning in the New Kingdom with the 18th dynasty the pharaohs abandoned Memphis and Saqqara and built their tomb in Thebes for about 500 years. They no longer built pyramid style tombs. The tombs were cut into the limestone following a similar pattern: three corridors, an antechamber, and a sunken sarcophagus chamber. Construction lasted about 6 years. Valley of the Kings is located in the Theban Hills, at the every end is the pyramid shaped peak of al-Qurn.
This was taken in the parking lot, no cameras are allowed beyond here. The tombs we went in was spectacular with brilliant colors telling the stories of the pharaohs and gods like the walls and ceiling. It was so smart to be the first there, we had the tombs pretty much to ourselves, after that there were huge long lines going in and out of the tombs.
Howard Carter's house. He was an archaeologist and Egyptologist and noted as the discoverer of the tomb of Tutankhamun on November 4, 1922.This is the Valley of the Nobles, also on the west bank of Luxor in an area called Sheik Abd El-Korna. It contains the rock cut tombs of Nobles and high officials who served the pharaohs during the New Kingdom (1500-500 bc).
Taking a balloon ride out over the area is a popular way to spend the day,
Hatshepsut (pronounced Hat-sheep-suit) means Foremost of the Noble Ladies, was the 5th pharaoh of the 18th dynasty and reigned 22 years. She is considered one of the most successful pharaohs. She was one of the most prolific builder in ancient Egypt construction 100's of structures in Upper and Lower Egypt We are heading for Djeser-Djeseru, Hatshepsut's mortuary temple complex at Deir el-Bahri. What is called the Luxor Massacre took place here in 1997, 58 tourists and 4 Egyptians were massacred by Islamist terrorists from Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya.
Deir el-Bahari means "The Northern Monastery" and is a complex of temple and tombs on the west bank of the Nile opposite Luxor.

Alabaster of the ancient Egyptians and the bible is termed Oriental alabaster, was esteemed for making perfume bottles, jars and various sacred objects as well as large sarcophagus and sphinxes.
the man are hand working alabaster which produces the finest pieces,
tools used to make the bowl shape as well as chunks of the mineral,
thicker, heavier pieces are made by machine,
the purest alabaster is snow white, it's softness enables it to be carved but it is soluble in water, if smooth alabaster is washed it will become rough and dull loosing its translucency and luster, here we are being shown how beautiful it looks with light in it,
