Day 3 Sunday Vancouver

This morning we took a tour of Vancouver. Vancouver was named after George Vancouver who explored the area in the 1790's. Vancouver is Dutch meaning one from Coevorden in the Netherlands. That is so interesting. Our home for the next seven days will be the Statendam, a Dutch ship. The city grew up in 1867 around saw mills in an area called Gastown.
Our first stop was Queen Elizabeth Park. Evan is puzzling over the Monkey Puzzle Tree so named because a monkey would be puzzled trying to climb it. I like what Erica said, "it looks like Medusa's hair."
The park has beautiful gardens. It is the highest point in Vancouver at 501' above sea level.

I think this is the first time I have ever seen dogwood flowers.
We then boarded the Statendam in time for lunch and a great view of Vancouver from the water.
We sailed out into the Strait of George along the coast of Canada into Queen Charlotte Sound. The ship was rocky.
