Kaua'i Day 2, Thursday

Thankful Thursday
Michelle, Charlie, and Hope
Camping with my family
A husband who is a mountain man
Friends that are patient with me
A glorious earth

We had a very cold night and slept in all the warm clothes we had. But is was so fun!
We headed off to the canyon lookout.

We didn't hike down into it...not this trip.
Today's hike: 7 miles.
We then headed down the Nu'alolo Trail which ends with a view at the top of the Na Pali coast. It then hooks up with Nu'alolo Cliff trail.

The blackberry bushes were blooming everywhere. Some lucky hikers will have a real treat because this hike was covered in them.
We got to see some of the most spectacular flowers.
Meandering along.

A view of Ni'ihau. This island is 17 miles south west. There are only 200 people living there. There is no running water or electricity. It is a privately owned island bought in 1860 by the Sinclair family and allow the residents of the island to stay. The family also own beautiful 51,000 acre estate high in the mountains on Kauai.
I love these flowers.
More Dr. Suess plants.
Uh oh. We got to the lookout trail but it was far too dangerous. We then tried to go along the cliff "trail" and the trail quickly disintegrated into a 2,000 foot drop of crumbling rock. Michelle, Erik, and Charlie made the extremely wise decision to turn back.
Here's is the view of the drop.
The view of the Na Pali is spectacular. This is beyond where the lower trail ends. The only other way to see this is by air or boat. We watched wild goats dance around the cliffs like it was nothing. It was spectacular to watch.
The Nu'lolo Valley.
More view before we headed back up.
Such cool plants.
A short rest then the rest of the walk up. Evan entertained us with these very funny songs he was making up on the spot to convince Michelle to kick her soda habit. I didn't know he had such a talent.
After the hike we headed to Barking Sands on the west coast to stay in a cabin...ahhh...a hot shower and a washing machine...and a beach sun set!
